How did thirroul get its name?
Thirroul lies on the coast 69 km south of Sydney. The name derives from an Aboriginal word, ‘Thurrural’ said to mean ‘the Valley of the Cabbage Tree Palms’. Once a coalmining settlement it is now a transitional area between the escarpment ‘villages’ to the north and the true suburbia to the south.

What a great suburb is Warrawong! It is a beautiful area looking out over Lake Illawarra, the people are really friendly with a great community atmosphere. The shopping is awesome with a Westfield and a great range of shops including cinemas. It has a wonderful multicultural feel.
Is Wollongong safe at night?
Gorgeous beaches to the East and mountains to the west. There is always something new to discover and northern and southern suburbs are easy to get to. If you know the area you learn where not to go (namely at night time). I lived in north wollongong for 7 years from uni and after and always found it quite safe.
