It is part of the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area which is also located in part of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest.

The overlook into Hell’s Canyon is wonderful. The actual Snake River is past a ridge across the way, but there is plenty of canyon to see. Crows were playing in the updrafts at the cliff’s edge. The back Forest Service road to Enterprise is narrower and not so good, but we took it, being country people.
